Abstract
In response to an essay in which Professor Frank Vandall claimed that 'war is safer than living in the United States,' Benjamin Stahl, a Marine Corps veteran with two combat deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, takes an honest look at the data to determine whether adequate support for the statement exists. Ultimately, whether intentionally or not, the statement made by the professor exposes a disconnected view of the true cost of war. Despite the well-known failures within the Department of Veterans Affairs and the struggles of adapting to civilian life, the American veteran community often accepts contempt as the unfortunate status quo. However, the merit of a statement with the potential to severely diminish and disparage the American veteran experience ought to be thoroughly vetted for its truthfulness.
