MINDING THE GAP: Law and Practice in Public
Health Emergencies will explore the distinction between the theoretical and lived experiences of individuals during public health emergencies. How to improve response time and quality to better represent all individuals in a public health emergency is a profoundly legal question. This year’s symposium will draw attention to this gap in healthcare by first defining the gap, then identifying causative factors of the gap, before finally proposing solutions to close the gap and provide a more holistic healthcare regime. Recent developments in the field of global health law relating to the Ebola and Zika outbreaks demonstrate an acute need for organized and thoughtful discussions on the role of law in public health emergencies. This year’s symposium features a diverse group of qualified scholars and experts, and we hope that their opinions and perspectives will create an opportunity for stimulating dialogue on the future of global health law.
